The Office Visit What to Expect at the office visit When you arrive you will be asked to fill out several forms. Please be sure to bring all insurance information, a picture ID, any relevant medical history, your glasses, and a list of your current medications. Next, a technician will obtain some medical information and perform some preliminary tests including a check of your vision. After these preliminary tests, your pupils will be dilated with eye drops. It will take between 20 and 60 minutes for your eyes to dilate fully. Why do my eyes have to be dilated? Once your eyes are dilated, the retina specialist will see you, go over your history, and perform a complete eye and retinal examination. The physician may need certain diagnostic tests as part of your evaluation. After your assessment has been completed, the doctor will discuss your problem and possible treatments with you. Please note that a new patient appointment can take as long as 1.5 -3.5 hours, depending upon the complexity of your examination and required tests. Please allow the necessary time in your schedule. You may wish to arrange for transportation, if you do not know how you will respond to having your eyes dilated. We look forward to seeing you!
